Punjab’s Transport Minister, Bilal Akbar, announced that electric buses will be operational in Lahore by the end of the year.
According to Akbar, approximately 27 electric buses will begin operating in Lahore by November or December to reduce carbon emissions. He also announced plans to introduce hybrid buses in other districts.
In response to an MPA’s inquiry, Akbar mentioned that over 200 feeder service buses in the provincial capital are subsidized, benefiting approximately one million commuters daily through the mass transit service.
During the session, lawmakers raised traffic issues in the House, with several members criticizing the police department’s performance in maintaining law and order.
Opposition member Brigadier Mushtaq Ahmed Khan (retd) raised concerns that cities outside Lahore lack sufficient transport facilities, accusing the government of disproportionately allocating the entire provincial budget to Lahore.
