Islamabad, 17 Apr 2025: In a significant move towards green transportation, the Punjab government has accelerated its efforts to establish Electric Charging Stations across Lahore.

The initiative is aimed at catering to the increasing number of electric vehicles (EVs) and supporting sustainable mobility.

A high-level meeting on the subject was recently presided over by Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR) Nabeel Javed, where various stakeholders discussed the roadmap for infrastructure development.

High-Level Meeting Reviews EV Infrastructure Strategy

The session was attended by key officials, including the Secretary Transport, Member Colonies, Deputy Commissioner Lahore, and other relevant authorities.

The purpose of the meeting was to finalize initial plans for installing Electric Charging Stations at strategic locations within the city.

During the briefing, it was revealed that in the first stage, charging facilities will be constructed to support 1,100 electric vehicles in Lahore.

Both small-scale and large-capacity charging hubs will be developed to accommodate the city’s diverse vehicle population.

Site Identification and Surveys Underway

SMBR Nabeel Javed instructed the Lahore administration to promptly identify potential locations for EV stations, particularly in areas with high traffic and public accessibility.

He emphasized the need to conduct detailed surveys to establish charging units at major public and private parking spots throughout the city.

Furthermore, he stressed that a comprehensive plan of action must be prepared in collaboration with transport companies and other concerned departments to ensure effective execution.

The inclusion of private parking operators in the project will also be considered to expand reach and utility.

Government Prioritizing Land Allocation and Execution

To fast-track the project, land allocation for charging station sites will be prioritized, with necessary approvals granted swiftly.

Nabeel Javed reiterated the administration’s commitment to facilitating this transition toward electric mobility, underscoring its environmental and economic benefits.
