ISLAMABAD, JULY20: The Punjab government has made the decision to introduce a tram service in Lahore in an effort to enhance the city’s aesthetics and public transit. The sanction was given during a meeting at the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters that was presided over by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The 11-kilometer tram line will stop every one to 1.5 kilometers and pass through important places such Hali Road, Liberty, Main Market, and Mini Market. Furthermore, as part of a reconstruction and beautification project, MM Alam Road will be turned into a one-way in order to accommodate the tram route.
Chinese and Finnish modern tram designs are being considered for the project, which is expected to cost Rs. 27 billion. There will be a unique stop inside Gaddafi Stadium. This plan was discussed and approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, senior provincial minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, special assistant on political issues Zeeshan Malik, and other officials. The chief minister stressed that the project must be completed quickly, even though the formal debut date will not be revealed until later.
After the project is completed, the management will declare the Lahore tram service ticket price.In an effort to improve traffic management in Lahore, the chief minister also authorized a plan for a signal-free corridor that would run from Kareem Block to the Motorway.
