ISLAMABAD, JULY 18: The LHC in Lahore has ordered the immediate destruction of brick kilns that use antiquated technologies and greatly worsen the atmosphere. The written seven-page ruling was delivered by Justice Shahid Karim in response to pollution elimination petitions that were submitted by citizens Haroon Farooq and others.
In a bold move, LHC has mandated the removal of smog-producing brick kilns. The verdict emphasizes how strictly brick kiln operators have violated court rules, and it holds the Department of Environment responsible for these transgressions.
The written decision makes clear that the deputy director of the environment department and the deputy commissioner (DC) of Sheikhupura have been given a last warning about following court orders. According to the order, any infractions pertaining to brick kilns will be the responsibility of the district courts throughout Punjab.
The court also accepted a report from the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), which said that in order to reduce smog, its CEO had banned cleaning operations on Canal Road between 7 and 10 am.
Members of the Judicial Commission are entrusted with evaluating enterprises around the Lahore Ring Road to guarantee adherence to smog-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and environmental rules.
Furthermore, a list of societies that violate water usage guidelines has been submitted by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA). The court observed that although certain societies have already paid their fines, WASA has been instructed to send final notices to those who have not yet complied with the procedures for submitting their fines.
