Islamabad, Sep 25: Mari Petroleum Company Limited (PSX: MARI) intends to build data centers at various sites throughout Pakistan to house data for both public and commercial entities.

“MPCL will start the project with scalable data centers and move into cloud computing, AI, and other related technology endeavors. The data center project launch ceremony was held early today in Karachi, according to a stock filing on Wednesday.

In an emergent meeting on September 23, the Board approved an equity investment of Rs. 10 billion in the proposed wholly-owned subsidiary firm, which will focus on artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data centers, and other emerging technologies, including those in the mining and petroleum sectors.

The company’s main business activities include hydrocarbon production, sales, and exploration. Its shares on the exchange were trading at Rs. 424.9 at the time of reporting, up 0.68 percent or Rs. 2.86 with more than 232,000 shares on Wednesday.
