Islamabad, Mar 17 2025: Cricketer Matthew Brownlee has created history by becoming the oldest debutant in men’s international cricket.

The 62-year-old made his first appearance for the Falkland Islands in a T20 International (T20I) match against Costa Rica at Guacima on March 10, 2025, as reported by Wisden.

Brownlee’s debut surpasses the previous record held by Osman Goker, who played his first international match for Turkey at the age of 59 against Romania in a T20I fixture in Ilfov County in August 2019.

Despite his late entry into international cricket, Brownlee has already played three T20I matches.

Over these games, he has accumulated six runs in three innings, including two not-out performances. While he has bowled an over, he has yet to claim his first international wicket.

His achievement places him among a select group of cricketers who made their international debuts at an advanced age.

Players like England’s James Souther, Pakistan’s Miran Bakhsh, and India’s Rustomji Jamshedji are also part of this exclusive list.

Brownlee’s debut highlights the inclusivity of the sport, proving that age is not necessarily a barrier to competing at the highest level.

His milestone is expected to inspire older cricketers worldwide who still aspire to represent their countries on the international stage.
