Islamabad, Sep 26: The European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) is set to transform messaging platforms by mandating tech giants like Meta to open their platforms to third-party services.
This change will enable users of apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger to communicate with individuals on other messaging apps, breaking the siloed nature of current platforms.
Meta has shared its roadmap for this cross-platform integration. Individual third-party chats are expected to roll out first, with group messaging to follow in 2025 and calling functionality by 2027.
While these changes are initially required only in Europe due to the DMA, it is likely that cross-platform messaging could expand globally, including in markets like the United States.
