Islamabad, Nov 30: Microsoft has denied allegations that it uses customer data from its Microsoft 365 applications, including Word and Excel, to train artificial intelligence models.

“These claims are false,” a Microsoft spokesperson clarified in a statement to Reuters. “Microsoft does not use customer data from Microsoft 365 consumer and commercial applications to train foundational large language models.”

The company explained that the “connected experiences” feature supports functionalities like co-authoring and cloud storage and is unrelated to AI model training processes.

The company responded after social media discussions claimed that users needed to opt out of a “connected experiences” feature, which some believed linked to AI model training.

Despite the clarification, online conversations highlight continued concerns about the potential misuse of customer data for AI development without explicit consent.
