Islamabad, Mar 12 2025: Microsoft has officially announced that it will discontinue support its for Remote Desktop app for Windows on May 27, 2025. After this date, users will no longer be able to access Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop.
Microsoft Dev Box using the legacy application. Instead, the tech giant is encouraging users to shift to the newer Windows App, which promises a more modern and efficient experience.
This transition comes as no surprise, given that Microsoft introduced the Windows App in September 2024 as a direct replacement outdated for Remote Desktop app. The new application boasts enhanced functionality.
Including multi-monitor support, dynamic display resolution, and seamless access to cloud-based virtual desktops.

The shift aligns with Microsoft’s cloud-first strategy, ensuring better performance and usability for remote work environments.
Following the May 27 deadline, all connections made to Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Dev Box through the legacy for Remote Desktop app from the Microsoft Store will be entirely blocked.
To prevent any disruptions, Microsoft advises users and organizations to migrate to the Windows App as soon as possible. The new app is readily available on the Microsoft Store and supports all modern Windows versions.
By making the switch now, users can benefit from enhanced features and a more stable remote desktop experience beyond the official support cutoff.
