Islamabad, Sep 5: The Indus River is still flowing in a “Medium Flood” at Kotri Barrage and a “Low Flood” at Guddu Barrage, according to the Federal Flood Commission (FFC).The remaining major rivers of the Indus River System (IRS), including Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej, are reportedly releasing their usual volumes as of Thursday, according to the daily FFC report. For the past eighteen (18) days, Tarbela Reservoir has continued to maintain its Maximum Conservation Level (MCL) of 1550 feet.
Mangla Reservoir, on the other hand, is currently 16.40 feet below its MCL of 1242 feet, at an elevation of 1225.60 feet. Tarbela, Chashma, and Mangla, the three main reservoirs in the nation, have a combined live storage capacity of 12,065 MAF, or 90.35% of the overall storage capacity of 13,354 MAF.
The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, reports that the Low Pressure Area that existed yesterday over Southeast Rajasthan, India, has diminished in importance. Additionally, a weak Seasonal Low is located over Balochistan and a shallow Westerly Wave trough is still present over Northern Afghanistan. Moreover, upper Pakistan was being affected by light, moist currents coming from the Bay of Bengal.
The majority of the country is expected to get mostly dry weather during the next 24 hours, according to FFD Lahore. However, light-intensity isolated thunderstorm rain is predicted throughout the upper catchments of all important IRS rivers. We do not expect any significant monsoon activity for the next 48 hours.
