Islamabad, Oct 1: Mominul Haque played a stellar innings, remaining unbeaten on 102 as Bangladesh reached 205-6 at lunch on the fourth day of their rain-interrupted second Test against India in Kanpur.
His innings included 16 boundaries and a six, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz supported him with six runs at the other end.
The day began with Bangladesh in a precarious position at 107-3, following significant rain delays and a wet outfield over the last two days. The top order faltered quickly, with Mushfiqur Rahim dismissed for 11 after Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery crashed into the stumps.
India’s fielders showcased their skills, leading to two rapid dismissals. Litton Das, who had looked promising with three fours off Bumrah, was caught by Rohit Sharma in a remarkable one-handed catch at mid-off while trying to charge at Mohammed Siraj.
Shortly after, Shakib Al Hasan was out for nine, caught by Siraj with a fantastic single-handed catch as he ran backward from mid-off after Shakib charged down the pitch against Ravichandran Ashwin.
Mominul, however, managed to weather some close calls, eventually achieving his 13th Test century with a swept boundary off Ashwin.
He was initially given out caught at square leg, but after reviewing the decision, it was overturned as replays confirmed the ball had struck his thigh guard instead.
While on 95, Mominul Haque edged a delivery from Siraj, which nearly led to his dismissal as Virat Kohli at first slip dived to his left but was unable to hold the catch.
India currently leads the two-match series 1-0, following a dominant victory in the first Test in Chennai.
