Islamabad, Feb 14: Pakistan and Myanmar have taken a step toward deepening economic cooperation as Myanmar’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Wunna Han, engaged in an interactive session at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI). During the discussion, he outlined his vision for strengthening trade, investment, and cultural ties between the two nations, emphasizing the vast potential for mutually beneficial collaboration.

According to a press release, Ambassador Han highlighted key sectors such as tourism, Information Technology (IT), and pharmaceuticals as prime areas for joint ventures and business-to-business (B2B) cooperation. He underscored the importance of improving the ease of doing business and fostering people-to-people exchanges to drive economic growth.

The discussion also touched on the cultural and historical significance of both countries, with Pakistan’s Gandhara Civilization and Myanmar’s religious landmarks offering a strong foundation for expanding religious tourism. The ambassador expressed optimism that these efforts would create new opportunities for trade and economic collaboration.

In response, ICCI President emphasized Pakistan’s diverse export potential, citing furniture, textiles, pharmaceuticals, marble, and agriculture as key industries where the two countries could develop stronger trade relations. He also stressed the need to address the trade imbalance by promoting joint ventures that ensure a mutually beneficial partnership.

One of the key points of discussion was enhancing connectivity, including the possibility of direct flights, cultural exchanges, and medical tourism, which could serve as catalysts for stronger bilateral relations. Senior Vice President of ICCI proposed the establishment of a business forum between the two countries to facilitate better communication and collaboration.

Executive Member Fatima Azeem highlighted the importance of increasing exchanges between women entrepreneurs in Pakistan and Myanmar, emphasizing that such initiatives would empower women financially and promote their business growth. Additionally, Executive Member Chaudhry Nadeem Ahmed underscored the potential for collaboration in the marble industry, citing it as an area with significant investment promise.

Senior Advisor to ICCI President Naeem Siddiqui proposed organizing medical exhibitions, symposiums, and virtual meetings to further trade and cooperation. The session concluded with a commitment to strengthening ties through ongoing dialogue and strategic collaboration.

The discussions have set a positive tone for future cooperation, with optimism surrounding increased trade, cultural exchanges, and joint ventures that could contribute to the long-term economic success of both nations. The event was attended by key ICCI officials, including Vice President Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry and Executive Members Malik Mohsin Khalid, Zulqurnain Abbasi, Naveed Satti, and Waseem Chaudhry.
