Islamabad, Dec 10; The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior reviewed updates regarding penalties for delayed vehicle registration. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad informed the committee that fines now apply to vehicles between 1,000 cc and 3,000 cc, per a notification from August 2. The government has already collected Rs. 260 million through these fines.

Committee member Tariq Fazal Chaudhry proposed abolishing the penalties, citing their impact on vehicle owners. However, a Ministry of Law representative clarified that the committee cannot suspend the notification. The DC also reported that increasing motorway fines to Rs. 2,500 has significantly reduced traffic violations, improving road safety.

The committee instructed the DC Islamabad to collaborate with the Car Association to address challenges in vehicle registration and implement practical solutions to improve compliance and public accountability.
