Islamabad, Nov 28: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has made significant strides in broadening the tax base for the fiscal year 2023-24 through advanced technological integration and strategic initiatives.

Key Achievements and Initiatives

  1. Real-time Data Integration:
    • Machine-to-machine data integration established with NADRA and 28 other organizations.
    • Real-time access to financial transaction data ensures improved monitoring and accountability.
  2. Technology-driven Insights:
    • Revamped tools like the Maloomat Portal and Tax Ray Dashboard empower field formations to monitor and encourage compliance effectively.
    • Dashboards provide continuous updates, aiding decision-making.
  3. Awareness Campaigns:
    • Media campaigns and personalized SMS/WhatsApp nudges target high-profile unregistered individuals, encouraging them to file returns.
    • The Maloomat Portal enables citizens to access their tax profiles conveniently.
  4. District Tax Offices (DTOs):
    • Creation of 145 DTOs with jurisdiction over tax compliance and action against non-filers.
  5. Collaboration with NADRA:
    • A special committee led by NADRA’s Chairman has provided recommendations for tax base expansion, currently being implemented by the FBR.

Notable Outcomes

  • Taxpayer Growth:
    • Added 3.6 million new taxpayers, an all-time high.
    • 1,780,406 individuals filed returns, reflecting growing compliance.

The FBR’s focus on leveraging technology, collaboration, and outreach initiatives marks a transformative step towards enhancing Pakistan’s tax net and promoting financial transparency.
