Islamabad, Dec 25: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a public advisory urging citizens to avoid unnecessary photocopying of their official documents to safeguard personal information and prevent potential misuse.

The advisory specifically directed the public to refrain from making unnecessary photocopies of their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs), family registration certificates, and other documents issued by NADRA. According to the authority, original documents or the corresponding NADRA-issued numbers suffice for most transactions at NADRA offices. Photocopies are only required in exceptional cases where certain documents are not accessible online.

Highlighting the security risks, NADRA emphasized that photocopies of critical documents could be exploited by unauthorized individuals, leading to potential identity theft or fraud. To address concerns or report misuse, citizens are encouraged to lodge complaints through the official NADRA portal at https://complaints.nadra.gov.pk.

This advisory follows reports of document misuse, including a sting operation by Team “Sar-e-Aam” that uncovered a scam involving the illegal sale of CNIC photocopies by photocopy vendors in Lahore. Such incidents underscore the importance of protecting personal information. NADRA’s guidelines aim to foster awareness and vigilance among citizens, reducing unnecessary risks and enhancing the overall security of their identities.
