Islamabad, Jan 5: In an effort to enhance accessibility and improve service delivery for Karachi residents, the government has decided to introduce passport services at two major NADRA centers in the city. The new initiative will allow citizens to avail passport-related services at the NADRA Mega Centre 5 Star Chowrangi and NADRA Mega Centre Siemens Chowrangi (SITE). This move aims to reduce overcrowding at the central passport office and provide more convenient locations for the public.

The decision follows a visit by Director General Passport Mustafa Jamal Qazi to Karachi, during which discussions focused on integrating passport services within NADRA centers. The expansion of this service is expected to cover approximately 11 NADRA mega centers across the country, including several in Karachi, as part of an ongoing effort to streamline service delivery.

This initiative is part of a broader push to address public concerns over passport issuance. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had previously visited Karachi’s 24/7 Passport Office at Awami Markaz and the NADRA Defence Mega Centre, where he assessed the efficiency of the system.

He received positive feedback from citizens, many of whom praised the smooth operation and timely processing of passports and ID cards. Minister Naqvi reassured the public that any delays in passport issuance were being swiftly addressed, and applicants could now expect their documents within the promised timelines.

In another significant development, Mustafa Jamal Qazi announced that the backlog of pending passport applications had been cleared. Since July 1, a record 3,376,510 passports have been printed, including categories for normal, urgent, and fast-track services. The successful clearing of the backlog reflects the dedication of the passport production team, and citizens are now advised to collect their passports directly from regional offices, as the email and SMS notification process has been completed.
