Islamabad, April 3, 2025 – Mohsin Naqvi has been elected as the new President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced in an official statement.
With this development, the PCB Chairman will take over from Shammi Silva, head of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
The decision was confirmed during a virtual meeting of ACC members on Thursday. Naqvi will hold the position for the next two years.
An official statement from the ACC highlighted Naqvi’s responsibilities in overseeing regional cricket affairs.
One of his primary challenges will be managing the upcoming Asia Cup, scheduled for September this year. With relations between Pakistan and India strained, hosting remains a key issue.

Initially awarded to India, the tournament cannot be held there due to diplomatic tensions with Pakistan.
As a result, the competition will take place at a neutral venue, a decision made when the event’s media rights were sold earlier this year.
Naqvi will now finalize the host nation, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerging as the leading option, while Sri Lanka remains a strong alternative.

His appointment comes at a crucial time for Asian cricket, with the governing body in the region facing key decisions regarding the tournament’s logistics.
India and Pakistan have only faced each other in ICC events and the Asia Cup since 2012-13, when the Men in Green toured India for a white-ball series.
Pakistan clinched the three-match ODI series 2-1, while the T20I series ended in a draw after the hosts made a comeback in the final match of the historic series.
The latest encounter between the arch-rivals took place in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2025, hosted by Pakistan, with matches featuring India held in Dubai.
