The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) hosted a significant session on Pakistan Monsoon Proactive Preparedness and Humanitarian Response Coordination Forum at the NDMA headquarters.

Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General, Inam Haider Malik presided over the session, where representatives from UN agencies, leading humanitarian organizations and development partners participated in the session to enhance preparedness and coordination for Monsoon 2024, a news release said.

Pakistan Monsoon Proactive Preparedness and Humanitarian Response Coordination Forum are aimed at ensuring a unified and effective response to potential monsoon-related disasters. Humanitarian organizations briefed the forum on their capacity readiness for Monsoon 2024, detailing of stockpiles including rescue capabilities, relief items, emergency preparedness measures, community engagement initiatives through local trainings and awareness campaigns and rehabilitation plans.

The Chairman NDMA underscored the importance of Anticipatory Actions to disaster management and said that this forum was a vital step in ensuring a coordinated response to monsoon-related challenges. He appreciated the active participation of humanitarian organizations and development partners in this effort. He urged to avoid duplication of relief operations and resource mapping. He called for collective efforts on resilient infrastructure with indigenous material in highly vulnerable areas.

The forum fostered a collaborative environment, enabling participants to share expertise, resources, and best practices. This collective approach will enhance the effectiveness of monsoon response efforts, mitigating the impact of potential disasters on vulnerable communities.

The NDMA reaffirms its dedication to disaster risk reduction and management, working closely with humanitarian organizations and development partners to ensure the safety and well-being of the people.
