Islamabad, Aug 2: Inspired by the tram systems in Finland and China, the National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) has suggested a path for a tram service in Lahore. Nine significant locations along Main Boulevard Gulberg will be covered by the route.
NESPAK has created a 3D movie that shows the itinerary and the approximate amount of time needed to get between locations. Maryam Nawaz, the chief minister of Punjab, will see it. Starting at Kalma Chowk, the projected tram line will stop at Qaddafi Stadium, then at Hafeez Center, Raja Center, and Main Market. The tram will travel from Main Market to Home Economics College before reversing course and continuing down Main Boulevard. Before arriving at Kalma Chowk, there are a few more stops along the way, such as Mini Market and MM Alam Road.
The Lahore Development Authority’s (LDA) Chief Engineer, Israr Saeed, emphasized that the tram is intended to service Gulberg’s busy business and commercial districts, potentially saving residents millions of dollars in gasoline each month. In keeping with contemporary norms and demands, the project strives to be both inexpensive and energy-efficient. To inform the final concept, an international study of effective tram systems is being done.
