Islamabad, Dec 16: Mayor Murtaza Wahab of Karachi officially inaugurated Nestlé Pakistan’s first clean and safe drinking water facility in the Bin Qasim Town district, a vital addition designed to serve over 10,000 individuals every day.
The new facility is part of Nestlé Pakistan’s broader initiative to provide access to clean drinking water across the country. With this facility, Nestlé expands its operations to include nine such plants near its manufacturing sites in Sheikhupura, Kabirwala, Khanewal, Islamabad, and Karachi. Collectively, these facilities aim to provide clean drinking water to around 90,000 people daily.
In collaboration with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the Port Qasim Authority, the newly launched facility uses ultrafiltration water treatment technology to produce up to 3,000 liters of safe water per hour. It features a multi-stage filtration process, UV disinfection, and energy-efficient pumps to ensure high-quality water while minimizing environmental impact.
During the inauguration, Mayor Wahab emphasized the importance of access to clean water, stating, “This remarkable initiative by Nestlé will undoubtedly benefit the community. Access to safe drinking water is a fundamental need, and I appreciate Nestlé’s commitment to supporting Karachi’s citizens.”
Jason Avanceña, CEO of Nestlé Pakistan, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the company’s commitment to Creating Shared Value. He said, “This new facility reflects our dedication to positively impacting families, communities, and the planet, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
Nestlé’s efforts, as part of its Caring for Water-Pakistan program, focus on factories, communities, and agriculture, ensuring the provision of clean water in line with the UN’s sustainability targets, including SDGs 6, 13, and 17.
