Islamabad, Jan 7: The Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) has been tasked with presenting detailed plans for the construction of affordable housing schemes in eight districts, as part of the provincial government’s ambitious ‘Apna Ghar Apni Chhat’ program. The initiative aims to provide accessible housing options for low-income families in the region.

During a meeting held on Monday, Punjab’s Minister for Housing, Bilal Yasin, directed PHATA to expedite the process of developing these housing projects. The selected districts for the low-cost housing schemes include Faisalabad, Sialkot, Layyah, Bhakkar, and Khanewal, with more to follow. This step is in line with the government’s broader goal to address the housing shortage and improve living conditions for marginalized communities.

PHATA’s Director General provided a progress update, revealing that 4,800 applicants have already received their first installment for house construction, while 500 individuals have received their second installment. This initiative has gained momentum, with over 73,498 applications currently being processed and scrutinized. These applications reflect the growing demand for affordable housing in the province.

The Punjab government’s ‘Apna Ghar Apni Chhat’ program aims to empower residents with the opportunity to own homes at affordable prices, while also stimulating the local economy through infrastructure development. The government is committed to ensuring that the projects are not only timely but also meet high standards of quality and sustainability.

By focusing on these eight districts, the government aims to make significant strides in alleviating housing issues, providing low-cost housing solutions to thousands of families, and contributing to the overall growth and prosperity of the province.
