Islamabad, Aug 24: The British High Commission said on Friday that the UK would be moving to an online immigration status system in place of paper documents as part of its digital immigration system. Under the new digital UK immigration system, vignette stickers in passports, “wet ink stamps,” and biometric residence permits (BRPs) will no longer be necessary.

“You will need to create a UKVI online account in order to access your eVisa if you are granted a visa to stay in the UK for more than six months, such as for work or study,” the High Commission said. Your account will act as a digital documentation of your immigration status. You are exempt from creating a UKVI account, though, if your visa is issued for a shorter period of time than six months, such a tourist visa.

According to the British High Commission, Pakistanis traveling to the UK will find it easier to travel thanks to the switch to a computerized immigration system. The visa application procedure will be more secure and efficient with an online approach, doing away with the need for paper documentation like permits and stamps. According to the British High Commission, the new eVisa application procedure is easy, safe, and free.

“Until you receive your passport and valid UK visa from the Visa Application Center (VAC), you are not permitted to enter the UK. The applicants were further cautioned by the High Commission that updating a physical document to an eVisa does not impact their immigration status or the terms of their authorization to enter or remain in the UK.

Visa holders are required to obtain a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) upon arrival in the United Kingdom. BRP cards are good until December 31, 2024, but that doesn’t mean anything about their immigration status when they expire. You can access the eVisa and create a UKVI account using the BRP card. To demonstrate your eligibility to return to the UK, it is advised that you keep your BRP until it expires and carry both it and your passport when traveling overseas.
