Islamabad, Apr 29, 2025: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has set the annual tuition fees for MBBS and BDS courses at Rs. 1.8 million, with a 5% increase permitted for the 2025 academic year. Any subsequent fee hikes will be linked to inflation starting from 2026.

This decision is based on the advice of the Medical Education Reforms Committee, led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and formed under the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Institutions that have already charged beyond the approved fee must either refund the excess amount or adjust it for future sessions.

Colleges that wish to increase fees—up to a cap of Rs. 2.5 million—must provide comprehensive financial justifications to the PMDC for approval.

The council has cautioned that failure to adhere to these regulations will result in legal actions, with aggrieved parties able to file complaints through the PMDC portal.

Dr. Riaz Janjua, Secretary-General of the Pakistan Association of Private Medical and Dental Institutions (PAMI), expressed concerns about the decision, stating that it could undermine the financial sustainability of many medical colleges.

He emphasized that institutions in urban centers bear significantly higher operational expenses compared to those in rural areas.

Dr. Janjua also called for PAMI’s involvement in the fee review process to ensure equity, a recommendation that was reportedly accepted during the discussions.
