Islamabad, Oct 8: New Public Transport Safety Rules in Islamabad
The Islamabad Transport Authority has released new guidelines for public transport vehicles in the Federal Capital aimed at ensuring safe and fair services. These guidelines emphasize passenger safety, prioritize vulnerable commuters, and address issues such as overcharging and violations, according to a spokesperson for the ICT administration.
Key provisions of the guidelines include the requirement for all New Public Transport Safety Rules vehicles to display their fitness certificates and route permits clearly on the front glass. Additionally, rental cars must have signage on both the front and back glass indicating their rental status.
The guidelines also mandate that women and senior citizens receive priority seating at the front of public transport vehicles.
Vehicles are required to complete their assigned routes as specified in their route permits, with legal action to be taken against any transport coordinator (Adda Munshi) that fails to comply.
For vehicles equipped with CNG cylinders, obtaining a Cylinder Pass Certificate from OGRA-approved stations is necessary to ensure safe operations.
Drivers are expected to adhere to proper road lanes and designated routes while operating their vehicles. The spokesperson reiterated that overcharging passengers and overloading vehicles are strictly prohibited.
Furthermore, the use of pressure horns and playing music inside vehicles is not allowed. Vulnerable passengers should be seated with priority and charged 50% less than the standard fare.
