In 25 oil and gas sites throughout Pakistan, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has created a plan for using geothermal resources. The oil and gas exploration and production business will conduct a pilot project in this respect, which will involve screening, evaluating, and choosing nine fields for in-depth investigation, assessing geothermal potential, modeling wellbores, and deciding on the next course of action.

In order to create a plan for assessing the geothermal potential of 25 fields in Pakistan’s North, South, and Central basins that OGDCL has pre-selected, OGDCL will bring on board SLB, a multinational technology business.

The OGDCL team and SLB specialists will evaluate the fields’ surface, subsurface, and well data in order to pinpoint focus areas and calculate the geothermal potential of those areas using well-productivity calculations and regional models. Thermal energy drawn from the earth’s crust is known as geothermal energy. It blends energy from radioactive decay with energy from the planet’s formation. For thousands of years, people have used geothermal energy as a source of heat and/or electricity.

OGDCL is dedicated to investigating cutting-edge opportunities for Pakistani energy development, and our partnership with SLB is a big step in the right direction toward realizing the nation’s geothermal potential. We hope to assess the potential of geothermal resources and contribute to the country’s sustainable energy solutions by utilizing SLB’s knowledge and technological prowess.said Ahmed Hayat Lak, MD/CEO of OGDCL.

According to Karim Badawi, SLB’s New Energy Development Director for MENA,”governments throughout the region are seeing the potential of geothermal as an alternative clean energy source that can support their net-zero initiatives”, SLB’s New Energy Development Director for MENA, “governments throughout the region are seeing the potential of geothermal as an alternative clean energy source that can support their net-zero initiatives.”
