Islamabad, Dec 18: As winter temperatures continue to decline, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) announced on Tuesday an approval for an increase in gas prices for the current fiscal year.

According to a notification issued by Ogra, gas prices for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) consumers have been raised by 8.71%, while consumers of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) will see a 25.78% increase. The regulatory authority has forwarded this decision to the federal government for final approval.

The notification specified that the average gas price for Sui Northern is proposed at Rs1,778.35 per MMBTU, while for Sui Southern, it is set at Rs1,762.51 per MMBTU.

“Ogra, under Section 8(2) of the OGRA Ordinance, 2002, determined the Review of Estimated Revenue Requirement (RERR) for SNGPL and SSGCL for the fiscal year 2024-25 through decisions dated December 17, 2024,” the statement read.

These determinations have been sent to the federal government, which will provide category-wise pricing advice as required under Section 8(3) of the OGRA Ordinance. Ogra clarified that any changes approved by the government will be officially notified. Until then, the current category-wise gas sale prices will remain in effect.
