Islamabad, Feb 22: OpenAI has officially expanded Operator, its cutting-edge AI agent, to multiple countries worldwide. Initially launched in the U.S. in January 2025, Operator is now available to ChatGPT Pro users in Australia, Canada, India, Japan, Brazil, Singapore, South Korea, the U.K., and several other regions. However, its rollout excludes the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland for now.

What is Operator?

Operator is an AI-powered automation assistant designed to handle a variety of tasks seamlessly. Unlike traditional chatbots that offer basic responses, Operator actively interacts with third-party platforms to execute tasks such as booking flights, making restaurant reservations, processing expense reports, and managing online shopping. This hands-free experience enhances productivity by eliminating manual effort.

Availability & Pricing

Currently, Operator is exclusive to ChatGPT Pro subscribers, who pay $200 per month for access. The AI agent operates through a separate browser window, allowing users to monitor and control tasks in real time. OpenAI has confirmed that it plans to extend Operator’s availability to all ChatGPT users in the future.

Competition & Market Impact

Operator enters a competitive landscape where companies like Google, Anthropic, and Rabbit are also developing AI-powered automation tools. However, Google’s AI assistant remains in a waitlist phase, Anthropic’s automation features are limited to API access, and Rabbit’s model is restricted to its proprietary devices. These limitations give OpenAI a competitive edge, positioning Operator as a leading choice for AI-driven task automation.

The Future of AI Automation

With this expansion, OpenAI aims to revolutionize task management, offering users an advanced AI tool capable of executing complex functions. While its high subscription fee and limited accessibility may deter some users, Operator sets a new benchmark in AI-driven productivity. As OpenAI continues refining its features, Operator is expected to become a dominant force in the automation space, transforming how users interact with AI for everyday tasks.
