Islamabad, Dec 10: OpenAI announced on Monday that it has released its artificial intelligence model, Sora, which creates video from text to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users, marking a step forward in multimodal AI technologies.

The company, backed by Microsoft, aims to compete with similar text-to-video tools from Meta, Google’s Alphabet, and Stability AI’s Stable Video Diffusion. Sora, which was initially introduced in February but limited to safety testers during its research preview phase, is now available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users at no additional cost as Sora Turbo.

“We’re working on tailored pricing for different types of users, which we plan to make available early next year,” OpenAI said in a blog post. Users will be able to generate videos up to 1080p resolution, up to 20 seconds long, and in widescreen, vertical, or square aspect ratios.

While Sora is not yet available in the EU, Switzerland, and the UK, it will be accessible in other regions where ChatGPT is available. OpenAI also stated that it would block the creation and upload of harmful content, such as child sexual abuse materials and sexual deepfakes, to prevent misuse.

“Uploads of people will be limited at launch, but we intend to roll the feature out to more users as we refine our deepfake mitigations,” the company added.
