Islamabad, Sep 24: The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Trade Road Map 2025–27 between Pakistan and Belarus has primarily been agreed to, according to Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan’s statement here on Tuesday. This agreement will be finalized following the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Belarus and a reciprocal visit by Belarusian leadership.

At the conclusion of the 7th Session of the Pakistan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), the minister of energy for Belarus, Aleksei Kushnarenko, addressed a joint press conference. He stated that overall, there has been consensus on five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), one of which was signed on Tuesday and related to cooperation in the textile sector.

He added that Pakistan was considering all options for advancing trade and whether collaborative ventures could come to fruition in particular sectors, such as technology, agriculture, industry, and pharmaceuticals. He stated that the other Memoranda of Understandings will take on their final form during the President of Belarus’s visit to Pakistan.

He stated that Belarusian experience would be used to create a framework for different industries to support economic development, and both parties looked into prospects to produce electric vehicles. In order for the agreements to become a reality and be fruitful, the minister stated that the arrangements for the eighth JMC session had already begun.

The minister of commerce stated that both nations have worked together in many areas of shared interest, such as trade, agriculture, research and technology, communication, the banking business, the agri-manufacturing sector, education, health, and many other areas.

Speaking at the event, Belarus’s Minister of Energy, Aleksei Kushnarenko, expressed the hope that the two nations’ collaboration would grow yearly. In the meantime, Aleksei Kushnarenko met with Ahad Cheema, the Minister of commercial Affairs, with a particular focus on fostering more cooperation and commercial links between the two countries.

Minister Cheema underlined that Pakistan is committed to carrying out the agreements reached at the meeting and outlined the benefits of Belarusian agricultural technology for Pakistan’s economy, which is heavily dependent on agriculture.

In addition, he showed great interest in the Belarusian-proposed electric bus project, stating that it complemented Pakistan’s objectives for environmentally friendly transportation options. The signing of Memorandums of Understanding pertaining to the textile sector was also praised by both ministers, as it was a crucial step in promoting bilateral cooperation.

With assurances of a safe investment climate, Cheema invited investors from Belarus to investigate potential in Pakistan through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).He predicted that the forthcoming trips to Belarus by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would strengthen commercial ties between their countries.
