Islamabad, Oct 23: To maintain order during the highly anticipated Test match between Pakistan and England at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) has implemented a comprehensive traffic management plan.
To oversee the roads surrounding the stadium throughout the five-day event, an estimated 370 traffic police officers would be stationed throughout the city, according to reports.
As usual, when the teams are arriving and departing, Murree Road from Faizabad to Double Road will be completely closed. Vehicles traveling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad will be rerouted to Saidpur Road via 6th Road, while traffic traveling from Islamabad to Rawalpindi will be rerouted to the Expressway via Faizabad.
Traffic from Ghousia Chowk will continue to be redirected via Farooq Azam Road to Kurry Road. Stadium Road will also be closed throughout the game from 9th Avenue Chowk to Double Road Turn. The Expressway will be the alternate route for traffic from 9th Avenue going to Islamabad, whereas Faizabad would be the route for traffic from Murree Road going to 9th Avenue.
The traffic police have called for cooperation from the public and emphasized that during the event, people must follow the plan.
There will be five parking spaces reserved for spectators, and the district government will set up shuttle services to take visitors to the stadium. To inform commuters of alternate routes, informative posters will be erected at strategic locations. CTP’s FM radio and social media accounts will also provide information.
To guarantee safety, security has been stepped up in addition to traffic arrangements, with 3,200 cops joining the 370 traffic personnel.
CCTV cameras will track the teams’ movements, and for extra protection, snipers will be stationed on rooftops. Units of the District Police, Elite Force, and Dolphin Force will be positioned both inside and outside the stadium, as well as in the neighborhood.
