Islamabad, Nov 22: The Pakistani government on Friday rejected statements made by Bushra Bibi, wife of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who suggested that Saudi Arabia had opposed her husband’s administration.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar called on political parties to refrain from undermining the country’s foreign policy for political gains.

In a rare public address, Bushra Bibi assured Pakistani institutions that if Khan were released from prison, he would not seek retribution against his political opponents.

She also encouraged supporters to attend a planned PTI protest in Islamabad on November 24, where she made comments suggesting Saudi Arabia’s opposition to Khan.

Ishaq Dar condemned these remarks, emphasizing that accusing Saudi Arabia of political purposes was both unfortunate and indicative of a “desperate mindset.” He stressed the strong bond between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, highlighting mutual respect and admiration for the Kingdom’s growth and support through challenging times.

Khan, who was ousted in 2022 through a parliamentary no-confidence vote, has faced numerous legal challenges since his imprisonment in August of the previous year. He maintains that the charges against him are politically motivated, aimed at keeping him incarcerated.
