Islamabad, Oct 29: Pakistan Offers More Than 4,000 Scholarships to Afghan Students. In an effort to increase Afghan youth’s potential through high-quality education, the Pakistani government is providing scholarships to more than 4,000 Afghan students in a variety of sectors, such as computer science, engineering, medical, agriculture, and management.

Member of the National Assembly Sher Ali Arbab stated that at least one-third of the scholarships would be allocated to female students during his remarks at the 47th Annual Forum of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA), which Pakistan is hosting here on Tuesday.

He stated during a session called “Situation in Afghanistan: Navigating Justice, Human Rights, and International Accountability” that the goals of these scholarships were to foster greater cultural and social integration between the two countries, support the development of human resources for Afghanistan’s reconstruction, and strengthen professional ties between educational institutions in both countries.

He emphasized Pakistan’s lenient visa policies for Afghan people, which further promote mutual advantages and integration by enabling Afghans to open bank accounts and get driver’s licenses in Pakistan.

According to him, a stable and peaceful Afghanistan serves Pakistan’s interests by giving it access to markets in Afghanistan and Central Asia.

Claudia Cruz Santos of Portugal, the vice-chairperson of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, commended the Pakistani people for their hospitality and support of the participants.

Afghan members of parliament Zohar Nawrozi and Fawzia Koofi, who are also exiled representatives of the Internal Security Commission, expressed their displeasure with the restrictions that prevent Afghan females from going to school.

Concerns over human rights abuses in Afghanistan were raised by Christine Chung, Human Rights Officer at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Afghan women’s persecution and denial of basic rights is a devastating violation of human dignity and equality, according to Dr. Ewelina U. Ochab, Senior Program Lawyer of the International Bar Association.
