Islamabad, Oct 22: Pakistan Railway App Glitch Causes Travel Chaos for Passengers
A serious weakness in Pakistan Railways’ mobile app has been revealed by the company’s recent transition to its winter schedule. Many travelers rely on the Live Tracking app for up-to-date train information, but it hasn’t updated to reflect the new timetable.
Due to the glaring 59-minute discrepancy between the app’s presented times and the actual train schedules, many ticket holders were left stranded on stations, missing their departures even if they thought they arrived on time.
Launched on February 12, 2019, the Live Tracking system was created to give consumers access to real-time information on train movements and schedules through their smartphones.
Yesterday, Irfanullah, a tourist who had bought a ticket for the 11 Up Hazara Express online, was put in a difficult predicament.
Irfanullah used the app to plan his trip from Rahim Yar Khan to Bhalwal, however because of the recently imposed winter schedule, the app showed a time 45 minutes ahead of the train’s real arrival.
When Irfanullah got to the station, he found that the Hazara Express had left fifty-nine minutes earlier.
Similar worries were raised by other travelers at Rahim Yar Khan station, who expressed perplexity at the app’s contradictory information. The differences between the predicted, arriving, and scheduled times that were shown on their screens perplexed a lot of people.
Officials from the Rahim Yar Khan station declined to respond when asked, claiming that the railway headquarters is in charge of maintaining the app.
Pakistan Railway App During the time of previous Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, the Live Tracking app was first created in collaboration with Sukkur-based IT engineer Mudassir Zaidi.
The development of the software cost Rs. 7 million and involved utilizing global resources, such as Google Maps. The installation of 350 tracking devices on 325 railway engines cost an extra Rs. 70 million.
