Islamabad, Oct 14: Pakistan Railway revealed that it dismissed and punished more than 97 officials of the department during the last five years for corrupt practices to contain the malaise.
“Several steps are being taken to control corruption in Pakistan Railways which include introducing ticket vending machines and online reservation of tickets to avoid black marketing,” an official in the Ministry told APP. “It said, Pakistan Railways has constituted a task team to monitor any suspicious activity and time in of employees, in the organization,” added the official.
He said, Ticketless campaigns through Special Ticket Examiners groups and officers these campaigns and check on divisions to charge passengers with such penalty every day.
“Currently the payments of pension are done via the online banking in order to ease the pensioners and, in the process, removing the fake pensioners within the department,” he said.
He said: “All the auctions are being conducted through the authorized committee with clear deposit amount received through CDR Moreover the drive would authenticate the concerned Divisional Accounts Officers (DAO).” The official added, ‘E-Kacheri besides Khuli Kacheri are conducted on a monthly basis to address the complains of staff, pensioners and the public’.
He said, “Vigilance offices have been organized over the system to check up on and eradicate corruption and address any issue or grievance made by either the public or railway employees.
” The official stated, “The routine meetings in relation to the performance appraisals are for efficiency of the disposal of discipline cases of employees.” He said, “Focal personnel have been identified from all the departments of Pakistan Railways for the timely redressal of the complaints realized through the Prime Minister’s Performance Delivery Unit (PMDU).”
