Islamabad, Nov 5: Pakistan Railways (PR) has launched a dedicated train service to ease travel for passengers going from Karachi to Raiwind.
As per the Ministry of Railways, the inaugural train will leave Karachi on November 6 at 1:30 p.m., with an estimated arrival in Raiwind around 8:00 a.m. the following morning.
The special train will comprise 14 economy-class coaches to meet the expected high demand.
Pakistan Railways projects that it will generate around Rs. 8.5 million from this service, which contributes to the ministry’s overarching aim of producing more than Rs. 100 billion in revenue for the forthcoming fiscal year (2024-25).
This move comes on the heels of PR’s recent record-setting revenue of Rs. 88 billion for the 2023-24 fiscal year, which concluded on June 30.
This figure represents a 40% increase compared to the prior year, exceeding the initial target of Rs. 73 billion.
The revenue for the year 2023-24 reached an all-time high, consisting of Rs. 47 billion from ticket sales, Rs. 28 billion from freight services, and Rs. 13 billion generated from leasing railway land and other income sources.
Amir Ali Baloch, the CEO of PR, conveyed his appreciation to passengers for their continued trust in railway services.
He pointed out that the recent Eid special trains, which were fully booked, serve as a testament to PR’s commitment to improving service quality and drawing in more travelers.
With the introduction of this special train to Raiwind, Pakistan Railways reaffirms its commitment to enhancing transportation alternatives.
The ministry considers that such services are crucial for reaching its ambitious financial objectives and guaranteeing passenger comfort.
