Understanding the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND)
The UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) is a core body within ECOSOC that plays a vital role in forming and guiding international strategies against drug misuse.
The commission supervises the enforcement of international drug treaties and fosters global collaboration to address drug-related challenges.
The CND acts as a key forum for member states to negotiate, evaluate, and align efforts under the three pivotal UN drug conventions: the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances, and the 1988 Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.
By earning a place on this prestigious body, Pakistan reinforces its position as a responsible and proactive partner in the global campaign against narcotics.
