Islamabad, Aug 13: According to the Pakistan Rowing Federation on Monday, the Pakistani rowing team did quite well at the Asian Indoor Rowing Championship, which was held in Penang, Malaysia, from August 9 to August 11. The team took home a total of five gold, five silver, and four bronze medals.

More than fifteen Asian countries sent hundreds of athletes to compete in the competition. Notably, Pakistan captured only one gold medal at the previous Asian Indoor Rowing Championships in 2019, a far cry from this year’s remarkable collection of medals. There were four female and ten male athletes from Pakistan.

The team consisting of M. Imran Dogar, Ahmad Aziz, Imran Aslam, and Zark Khan were victorious in the open men’s 4×500-meter relay competition. In the lightweight men’s 4×500 meter relay, Pakistan won another gold medal thanks to the winning team of Abdul Rehman, Muzamil Shahzad, Gohar Ayub, and M. Abdul Rehman.

Zark won the gold in the 2000-meter under-23 open men’s single, while M. Abdul Rehman won the 2000-meter under-23 lightweight men’s single as well. Additionally, Muzamil Shahzad increased Pakistan’s gold medal total in the 500-meter lightweight men’s single event.

In the 500-meter lightweight women’s single event, Naila Bano took home a silver medal. Gohar Ayyub, Razia Hanif, Muzamil Shahzad, and Naila made up the mixed lightweight 4×500 meter relay team that won a silver medal. M. Abdul Rehman also won a silver medal in the 500-meter under-19 men’s single event. Silver went to Mohammad Adil Virk in the men’s open-weight single (2000m).

The quartet consisting of Naila, Razia, Rabia Amjad, and Iqra also took home a silver medal in the open women’s 4×500-meter relay competition. In the 500-meter women’s single event, Rabia took home a bronze. In the men’s 500m single, Imran and Ahmad both won bronze. The remaining bronze medallists were Ahmad, Imran Aslam, Rabia, and Iqra from the open mixed 500-meter team.
