Islamabad, Oct 18: Pakistan Taekwondo Championship Win Marks Historic Achievement for National Team
After yet another medal-filled day, Pakistan sealed the overall victory at the 6th Asian Open (Kyorugi) Taekwondo Championship in Indonesia, capping off an incredible participation.
The team put up a historic performance, winning three gold, three silver, and two bronze medals. This was the first time in the history of the nation that male and female athletes had ever done so at an international taekwondo competition.
Pakistan topped the standings in an intensely competitive competition that took place from October 14 to October 17. Kazakhstan came in second, and Malaysia completed the top three.
One of the most memorable events occurred on Thursday when Haroon Khan won gold in the -58 kg division after a close final against fellow national Abubakar. With scores of 6-4 and 9-7, Khan defeated his opponent in a fiercely contested final, showcasing his skill and poise.
In the women’s division, Manisha Ali won the first gold medal for Pakistan in the -73 kg final after soundly defeating Paramata Sari of Indonesia with scores of 4-1 and 8-2.
Due to their outstanding performance, the Pakistani squad was named the championship’s “Best Team,” while Shahzaib was named the “Best Athlete.”
In the meantime, Yousaf Karami earned “Best Coach,” highlighting Pakistan’s outstanding performance in the esteemed Taekwondo Championship.
