Islamabad, Nov 21: Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan announced that Pakistan aims to transition 30% of its vehicles to electric by 2030 during the COP29 session in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The session gathered ministers and delegates from various countries to discuss sustainable transport solutions.

The government is actively promoting electric vehicle adoption by setting up EV charging stations and raising awareness about the benefits of electric mobility.

Additionally, Karachi is set to launch the first fleet of biomethane hybrid buses, which is expected to eliminate fuel costs, providing a model for eco-friendly transport.

Aleem Khan highlighted the importance of green urban transport in addressing challenges like population growth and deteriorating air quality. He emphasized that targeted actions in the transport sector are essential to combat climate change and reduce smog.

The National Green Transport Project may incorporate Public-Private Partnerships to ensure its success.

The government is also focusing on renewable energy and digitalization to foster long-term transformation in the sector.

Ministers and delegates from countries like Turkey, Georgia, and Italy, as well as representatives from international organizations, participated in the forum.

Pakistan’s delegation shared ideas and strategies to develop sustainable long-term policies. Aleem Khan thanked Azerbaijan’s officials for hosting the event and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to advancing green transport initiatives.
