Islamabad, Sep 5: Recently, a group of journalists from Pakistan and other nations visited a number of important Chengdu, China, infrastructure locations, with an emphasis on Chengdu Metro Line 30. The visit gave a thorough rundown of Chengdu’s ambitious ambitions to expand its metro and light rail systems, which will establish the city as a pioneer in contemporary urban transportation. The Chengdu Metro Line 30 Phase 1 Emergency Monitoring and Education & Training Center greeted the delegation. The center, which is 1,300 square meters in size, has many training rooms, an emergency monitoring center, a safety experience hall, an exhibition hall for rail science, and an emergency supply warehouse.

More than 600 kilometers of track currently in service and more than 300 kilometers under construction, Chengdu’s metro system is growing quickly. The city of Chengdu has set an ambitious target to develop the system to 1,666 kilometers by 2035. By 2025, the total length of the metro and light rail lines is expected to exceed 850 kilometers.

Since its construction in 2005, the Chengdu metro system has carried over 12.9 billion people. Over 8 million passengers use the system on busy days, with an average daily ridership of 6.49 million in July 2024. The metro is an essential part of Chengdu’s public transportation system, with trains operating as frequently as every two minutes during peak hours with an almost flawless punctuality rate.

The delegation was given a briefing at the China Communications building Co. Ltd. (CCCC) location during the tour, where they witnessed the building of Chengdu Metro Line 30. This route, which runs from Longquan Station to Terminal 2 of Shuangliu Airport, is the first in Western China to have completely automated driverless trains. To improve capacity and safety, the trains communicate with each other using cutting-edge technology. By the end of 2025, Line 30 should be operational after construction on it started in 2020.

The 200-square-meter Industrial Worker Safety Education Area, which promotes worker safety, was also visited by the team. The center’s eleven zones offer visitors practical experiences like donning safety helmets and practicing first aid methods.

A brief overview of the CCCC’s 1897 founding history and corporate culture was given during the tour. The company, which ranked 63rd on the Fortune Global 500 list in 2020, has expanded into one of the biggest infrastructure companies in the world. Major international projects in CCCC’s portfolio include the Yangshan Port terminal in Shanghai and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, which is one of the world’s longest cross-sea bridges.

The team received a comprehensive rundown of the whole metro construction process at the Rail Science Exhibition Hall, including station building, track laying, and equipment installation. The hall displays the most recent technical developments in train construction, including shield machine-assisted tunnel excavation and subterranean station construction.

The other highlight of the visit was the 140 square meter Emergency Monitoring Center for Chengdu Metro Line 30. Real-time video surveillance of construction activities is made possible by the intelligent construction site information monitoring system installed in the center. Due to the system’s integration with tunnel monitoring systems, any safety problems can be addressed right away. Throughout Metro Line 30 construction, the center is staffed around-the-clock to guarantee ongoing safety supervision and emergency readiness.
