Pakistan’s Central Government Debt Reaches Rs. 69.6 Trillion as of July 2024

Islamabad, Sep 5: The federal government’s total public debt stock increased by 12.7% year over year (YoY) as compared to the same month the previous year. The debt stock rose by Rs. 7.827 trillion from Rs. 61.777 trillion in July 2023 to Rs. 69.604 trillion in July 2024, according to monthly figures released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).The federal government’s overall public debt stock increased by 1% month over month from Rs. 68.914 trillion in June 2024 to that amount.

According to the data, the central government’s internal debt grew by 22.2 percent between July 2023 and July 2024, from Rs. 39.016 trillion to Rs. 47.697 trillion.The last year, the stock of short-term debt rose from Rs. 9.289 trillion to Rs. 10.638 trillion, while the long-term public debt expanded from Rs. 29.588 trillion to Rs. 36.971 trillion.
