Islamabad, Sep 13: Pakistan’s IT industry is expected to benefit from its ranking in the top tiers of the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) report, according to State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, who made this announcement on Friday.

Speaking during a press conference, she stated that Pakistan was placed 79th in the ITU’s 2021 Global Cybersecurity Index, but 46th in the current report.According to the research, Pakistan has demonstrated leadership in legal, technical, capacity building, skill development, and organizational growth.

“The implementation of crucial legal measures, plans, capacity building initiatives, and cooperation frameworks by countries has resulted in significant improvements, particularly in strengthening incident response capabilities,” the report stated, citing the Global Cybersecurity Index 2024.

46 nations were ranked in Tier 1, the highest of the five levels, according to the report. Tier 1 is reserved for “role modeling” nations that show a strong commitment to each of the five cybersecurity pillars.

She said, “Pakistan has done incredibly well in the most recent ranking and is ranked in Tier 1, with the US, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia among other nations.””That Pakistan is now included in the top tiers of cybersecurity is an honor for the country and the IT industry,” the speaker declared.

In order to reach this milestone, Shaza Fatima also recognized the joint efforts of a number of departments, including Pakistan Telecommunication, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the Ministry of Planning Commission, the Ministry of Defense, and law enforcement organizations.

She conveyed her appreciation to the provinces and all parties involved for their efforts in bolstering Pakistan’s cybersecurity framework and advancing digital development throughout the nation.

The minister stated that “Google has invested in Pakistan” and intends to produce Chromebooks there for the first time. According to her, Islamabad is on track to become a “”Model Digital City””, incorporating cutting-edge technology for the betterment of its citizens.

Through a new app, individuals will be able to access more than 150 government services as part of this pilot experiment.The Capital Development Authority (CDA), the Islamabad Police, educational institutions, and health facilities will all provide a range of services through this app. In order to enhance city parking administration, it will also have an e-parking facility.
