Islamabad, 22 April 2025: PCB has begun its search for a new full-time head coach following the conclusion of the interim stint of Aaqib Javed.
His contract came to an end after disappointing showing in Champions Trophy earlier this year, and he has reportedly chosen not to continue in the role.
According to sources, Mike Hesson—currently serving as head coach of Islamabad United in the PSL—has emerged as the frontrunner for the position.
Hesson, who formerly held the position of Director of RCB, recently guided Islamabad United to a PSL title, boosting his reputation in franchise cricket circles.

PCB is believed to have initiated early talks with Hesson and a few other overseas coaches including New Zealand current batting coach, Luke Ronchi.
While no formal agreements have been made, a PCB official hinted that Hesson may consider the offer if discussions proceed smoothly.
All three coaches had been approached previously but declined due to existing commitments at the time.
One of the major challenges facing PCB in securing foreign coaches is the board’s recent history of abrupt changes.
Coaches such as Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn were dismissed only six months into their tenures following the early exit from the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Jason Gillespie stepped down after the Australia tour, while Gary Kirsten reportedly declined a return after his input was overlooked post the T20 World Cup debacle.
The recent form of Pakistan has raised concerns, with the team finishing last in the World Test Championship after a loss to the West Indies.
In the Champions Trophy, they failed to register a single win, and their white-ball tour of New Zealand yielded just one victory in nine matches.
With the team in need of a turnaround, PCB appears ready to turn to international expertise once again—but must first rebuild trust to secure the right leadership.
