Islamabad, Dec 19: The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) hosted a Construction Projects Stakeholders Consultative Workshop in Islamabad, addressing key issues and proposing reforms for the construction sector. The event, led by PEC Chairman Engr. Waseem Nazir, brought together industry professionals, constructors, consultants, and experts to focus on capacity building, regulatory reforms, and alignment with international standards.
Engr. Waseem Nazir emphasized the importance of maintaining core engineering values to boost the global competitiveness of Pakistani construction companies. He stressed the need for a collaborative approach to resolve capacity gaps, address employability concerns, and streamline the registration process to support sector growth. Furthermore, he urged alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.
The workshop delved into challenges such as the limited involvement of Pakistani firms in regional projects and barriers to capacity building. Participants discussed ways to reform the regulatory framework for easier registration and renewal services, while also addressing skills development and employability issues in the sector.
The session concluded with the presentation of a clear and actionable roadmap for reforms over the next six months, which included timelines and responsibilities to track progress. Engr. Nazir reaffirmed PEC’s commitment to creating a responsive regulatory environment that promotes sustainable growth in Pakistan’s construction sector.
Stakeholders, including Engr. Syed Ashfaq Hussain Shah, Engr. Arshad Dad, Engr. Shahid Rafi, Engr. Imran Cheema, Dr. Tahir Masud, Engr. Abdul Qadeer, and Engr. Farhat Adil, praised PEC’s initiative to provide a platform for open dialogue and innovation, marking an important step in enhancing Pakistan’s construction industry to align with global best practices.
