Islamabad, Jan 16: Peshawar Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling stations will remain closed until January 19 as part of a strategic effort to resolve the ongoing gas pressure issues.
This decision, announced by the Peshawar Deputy Commissioner, follows a directive from Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), prioritizing the supply of natural gas to residential consumers amid a severe cold wave gripping the region.
The announcement comes in response to a significant spike in gas demand due to the freezing temperatures, which has placed a strain on the city’s gas infrastructure.
With residential areas facing low gas pressure, many households that rely on natural gas for heating and cooking are experiencing disruptions in service. In light of these challenges, the temporary closure of CNG stations has been deemed essential to ensure a more reliable supply of gas to homes.

The deputy commissioner explained that the winter season has exacerbated the gas shortage, making it critical to focus on household consumption first.
Authorities have made it clear that this step will help alleviate the pressure on the supply system, ensuring that domestic consumers are not left without gas during the coldest period of the year. While this closure may cause temporary inconvenience for CNG vehicle owners, the overarching goal is to mitigate the impact of the gas crisis on households that are facing extreme weather conditions.
Residents have been assured that the government is taking all necessary measures to minimize disruptions and restore normalcy as quickly as possible. The closure is part of a broader strategy to manage the gas shortage efficiently, balancing the needs of both domestic and commercial consumers in Peshawar.
Authorities are committed to meeting the public’s essential needs during this critical period. They plan to restore services by January 19.
