Islamabad, Sep 5: A technical malfunction in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system has brought office operations to a standstill nationwide.
The outage on Wednesday has disrupted crucial employee-related processes, considered medical management and left approvals.
According to people with knowledge of the situation, PIA significantly depends on its ERP system to carry out these crucial tasks. Office productivity has been seriously impacted by the system outage in a number of sites, including the airline’s Karachi headquarters.
The IT department at PIA is putting a lot of effort into fixing the problem and getting the ERP system back up and running. The airline has acknowledged through a spokesman that attempts are being made to fix the technical issue and limit additional disruptions to operations.
It is presently unknown how the breakdown happened or when PIA’s internal systems will be back up and running.
As the official sale date of PIA approaches, the company will soon be privatized. The process will be finished on October 1, 2024, as the Secretary Privatization Commission confirmed to the Senate Standing Committee on Privatization last month.
Despite Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) difficult financial circumstances, the Senate Standing Committee on Privatization in Pakistan is still hopeful that the airline will be sold in a timely manner.
Senator Muhammad Tallal Badar, the chairman of the committee, stressed the significance of putting national interests ahead of partisan considerations while privatizing.
The committee voiced its concerns regarding PIA’s significant financial obligations, which have grown to a staggering Rs. 825 billion.
The airline has sustained losses of Rs. 75 billion in 2023 alone, adding to its Rs. 499 billion in liabilities since 2015. By comparison, the present valuation of PIA’s assets stands at Rs. 161 billion.
