Islamabad, Dec 21: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has urged authorities to take decisive action against tax defaulters and ensure their inclusion in the tax net. During a high-level review meeting on strategies to boost revenue collection, the Prime Minister stressed the need for strict enforcement against non-compliance.

The meeting focused on the use of technology to enhance the performance of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Officials briefed the Prime Minister on the installation and monitoring of video analytics in the sugar industry, which is aimed at improving revenue collection, curbing hoarding, and stabilizing sugar prices. Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the government’s priority of using technology to improve FBR’s efficiency and ensure the availability of sugar at affordable prices for the public. He directed regular monitoring of sugar stocks to ensure a smooth supply chain.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the need for stringent action against tax evasion and under-reporting by sugar mills, underscoring that ongoing digitalization efforts at FBR would bring significant financial benefits to the national treasury. In addition, Prime Minister Sharif instructed the prompt completion of FBR’s value chain digitization and the swift implementation of video analytics in the cement and tobacco industries.

The meeting was attended by key figures, including Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister of State for Finance Ali Pervaiz Malik, and other senior government officials.
