Islamabad, Sep 19: From September 23–27, 2024, in New York, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to take part in the high-level segment of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

Senior government officials including Senator Ishaq Dar, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, will accompany him. Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, a spokesman for the Foreign Office, stated during her weekly news briefing here on Thursday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz will emphasize Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to multilateralism and voice support for the UN’s role in fostering world peace, security, and prosperity in his speech to the UN General Assembly.

He will also stress the significance of resolving long-standing concerns on the UN Security Council’s agenda, such as the Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine challenges. In addition, he will be present at a number of high-level gatherings held concurrently with the UNGA session, such as the UN Security Council’s Open Debate on Leadership for Peace and the High-level Meeting on Existential Threats Posed by Sea-level Rise.

The prime minister’s visit schedule also includes bilateral talks with world leaders, the UN Secretary-General, the President of the UN General Assembly, and representatives of the Pakistani diaspora. Ishaq Dar, the deputy prime minister, will take part in a number of formal functions and one-on-one talks with his counterparts concurrently.

Ishaq Dar will represent Pakistan in a number of ministerial meetings in addition to the Summit of the Future, which the UN Secretary-General has called for September 22–23. These meetings include the OIC Annual Coordination Meeting of Foreign Ministers, the Meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, the Ministerial Meeting of the G77 and China, and the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movements.

The prime minister will have the chance to discuss Pakistan’s policy views on significant global issues and to restate Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the goals and tenets of the UN Charter as well as to international peace and security, according to the spokesperson. The prime minister will also be attending the 79th UNGA session.
