Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif met with a delegation of Chinese space technology company Galaxy Space led by Chairman Galaxy Space Xu Ming.
In the meeting Prime Minister said that Pakistan is giving utmost importance to the space technology sector:
Prime Minister said that China is our most reliable friend and strategic partner.
He also said, “Pakistan is keen to increase cooperation with China in the fields of space technology, space satellite and telecommunications, satellite internet.”
During the meeting with Prime Minister, Chinese company Galaxy Space delegation expressed deep interest in investing in Pakistan’s space technology industry and joint ventures with Pakistani space technology institutions and private telecom companies.
The delegation also said that meetings with officials of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom and SUPARCO were very useful.
During the discussions of the delegation members, the delegation thanked the Government of Pakistan for its warm hospitality in Pakistan.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecom Shaza Fatima, Advisor to the Minister Dr. Tauqir Shah and officers of relevant government institutions.
Background
Pakistan’s space program has made significant strides over the years, aiming to enhance its technological capabilities and scientific research.
The program, overseen by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), was established in the 1960s with the primary goal of advancing Pakistan’s space exploration, satellite technology, and communication systems.

The country’s early achievements included the successful launch of its first indigenously developed satellite, Badr-A, in 1990, which marked a milestone in Pakistan’s space endeavors.

The two countries have maintained strong strategic ties, with China offering both technological expertise and financial backing.

Notably, China has assisted Pakistan in the launch of satellites, including PakSat-1 and PakSat-1R, which have enhanced Pakistan’s satellite communication capabilities.
China’s support has extended to the development of ground infrastructure and joint research projects.
The collaboration also involves the sharing of knowledge in satellite technology, space applications, and rocket development.

Through this partnership, Pakistan has significantly bolstered its space capabilities, contributing to advancements in telecommunications, weather forecasting, and scientific research.
