Islamabad, Aug 29: Based on information from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the Ministry of Interior has announced that 72 investigative officials have access to the data of telecom users.

Police officers implicated in the sale of data were discovered during PTA investigations into 21 accusations of data leaks. Police officials from Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan are allegedly engaged. These officers were making up to Rs. 250,000 from the sale of consumer data, which they were selling for between Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 3,000.

After being discovered, officials engaged in the data sale asserted that their accounts had been compromised. PTA has notified the Ministry of Interior about the situation, informing it of data breaches and sales made by law enforcement.The Ministry of Interior’s SOPs have been urged to be changed by PTA. A plan should be developed to stop police and security professionals from leaking confidential information.
